Jungfrau Region Tourism

The official tourism page for the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland. Good for all-around information, and also worth exploring further in depth for articles about local culture, heritage and other interesting themes!

Grindelwald
The official tourism page for the area of Grindelwald.
Grindelwald is a pearl of a mountain village with a rich history, nestled in the Swiss Alps. It has a long tradition of alpinism and was once a refuge for pioneers of mountaineering. Today, this enchanting village still offers fascinating insights into the history of mountain sports. Delve into the stories of the adventurers of the past as you explore the breathtaking nature and charming culture of Grindelwald.

Lauterbrunnen
The official tourism page for the area of Lauterbrunnen.
Lauterbrunnen lies at 795 metres above sea level in an impressive trough valley between gigantic rock faces and peaks. 72 waterfalls cascade over the rock faces into the valley. The Staubbach Waterfall – one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in Europe – inspired Goethe to write his poem “Song of the Spirits over the Waters”. Lauterbrunnen was mentioned in a letter as “in claro fonte”, which basically means “by the clear spring(s)” or “by the bright spring(s)”. The name of the scattered settlement therefore probably refers to the more than 70 waterfalls as clear springs (hence Lauter) and streams (hence Brunnen). The Walser (Valais) village of Lauterbrunnen was the main colony of the people of Lötschen who settled in the Oberland in the 14th century.

Wengen
The official tourism page for the area of Wengen.
Located in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, Wengen belongs to the municipality of Lauterbrunnen. This authentic and quaint (car free) village is poised high above the Lauterbrunnen Valley at 1,274 m altitude, yet at the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. Wengen is a member of the Jungfrau Region Tourism Association – as is the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Mürren
The official tourism page for the area of Muerren.
Mürren is one of the Jungfrau Region’s two car-free villages. You can only reach the village by aerial cableway or on foot from Lauterbrunnen or Stechelberg. This sunny spa resort is the highest permanently inhabited village settlement in the Canton of Bern and lies above the Lauterbrunnen valley trough, which is famous for its history associated with glaciers. Mürren was once a settlement of the Walser (Valais) people and belongs politically to the municipality of Lauterbrunnen. Also noteworthy for James Bond fans - the 1969 Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” was shot here.

Switzerland Farmers Association & Bernese Oberland Farmers Association
Two awesome pages to take a closer look at for holistic, natural and authentic experiences and resources of all kinds. From knowing where around you in Switzerland you can buy local goods directly from farm-to-table and homesteaders (highly recommended! Please support these whenever possible, as they encourage more locally beneficial economy, the goods are always better overall and the animals have happier lives!), how and where to go see cows and other animals, sleep in traditional Swiss rustic chalets and farm stays (sleeping in the hay), general knowledge and information about Swiss agriculture - and even some courses and workshops!

More information on wildlife - animals - flora and fauna in Switzerland - can be found on these pages:

About Switzerland - Flora & Fauna
Alpine Hikers - Swiss Alpine Flowers Blog
Alpine Plants - Guide by the Kandersteg Scouts Association
Swiss Association for Biodiversity - a great resourceful page and you can see how to get active yourself! Become a godparent and supporter for Swiss Alpine animals!

Just look up permaculture, flora and fauna, animals and such or ask us for more information and activities, excursions and workshops! There are many great places like the Schweibenalp (a super interesting permaculture and holistic nature center!) - near the Grandhotel Giessbach and Giessbach Waterfalls - a great idea for a day excursion!

Awesome experiences, places to visit, tours and other activities

ReEarth - authentic and wholesome experiences in the nature of Switzerland:

The Alpine Threshold
A Signature ReEarth Quest in Interlaken
A mythic journey of gathering, becoming, and offering — hosted by Nature.

✧ What It Is
The Alpine Threshold is a half-day to full-day immersive experience designed for luxury travel, marriage proposals, honeymoons, and intimate group journeys.
Guests are welcomed not by performers, but by the land itself.
ReEarth guides serve as translators, helping guests listen, gather, and respond.
Each participant becomes part of a living quest—
gathering elements from the land to later create, celebrate, and offer.

✧ The Quest Narrative
The Land is said to offer a gift—but only to those who walk, gather, and listen.
Guests are invited into a simple myth:
“Today, you are gathering what the mountain is willing to give—
so that by nightfall, you may offer something back.”

✧ The Journey (One Linked Quest)
1. Crossing the Threshold – The Call
In a hidden alpine meadow or forest glade, guests arrive in silence.
A guide speaks briefly on behalf of the land, introducing the quest and the chosen creation for the day.
Each guest receives:
• A small pouch or vessel
• A talisman marking them as a walker between worlds

The Alpine Gathering – Walking & Foraging
A guided hike through forest paths, streams, and alpine clearings.
Along the way, guests are invited to gently gather:
• Wild herbs, flowers, and resins
• Clay, charcoal, stones, or water
• Natural pigments, scents, and textures
Respectful harvesting practices and local folklore are shared throughout.
Nothing is taken without asking.

The Making – Craft Born from the Walk
In an alpine hut or outdoor atelier, the gathered elements become:
• Herbal tea or alpine infusion
• Flower crown or natural composition
• Natural incense, essential oil, or personal perfume
• Ceremonial dish or bread
• Herbal painting, watercolor, or clay object
A slow, local meal follows—simple, warm, grounding.
What was walked becomes made.

The Elemental Rite – Dance of the Gift
As dusk approaches, fire is lit.
From the forest emerges the Dance Fairy—
a playful, elegant guide in natural costume and soft light, moving as if invited by the trees themselves.
With live music:
• Guests are led into an intuitive / ecstatic dance
• Movement becomes joy, release, devotion
At the heart of the rite:
• Each guest offers their crafted piece to the fire, the altar, or one another
• For honeymoons: the land crowns the King and Queen, placing the flower crowns crafted earlier as a sign of shared devotion
• Proposals, vows, or dedications unfold naturally within the circle
What was made becomes offered.

The Descent – Water, Sound & Rest
The quest softens into integration:
• Wood-fired sauna or hot tubs in nature
• Cold lake or mountain spring immersion
• Closing sound bath or yoga nidra under blankets and stars
The host grows quiet.
The body remembers.

✧ Why This Quest Works
• Every stage is meaningfully linked
• Playfulness is grounded in reverence
• Guests feel welcomed, not entertained
• Each journey is unrepeatable
• Nature is honored as host, not backdrop

✧ The ReEarth Signature
• Myth without dogma
• Luxury without excess
• Ritual without pressure
• Play without superficiality
• Nature as host, ReEarth as translator

Some castles of the Jungfrau Region along the wonderful Lake of Thun we can plan your wedding proposal at any of these:

- The Castle of Oberhofen
The romantic Oberhofen Castle site with its medieval keep is located directly on the shores of Lake Thun. The extensive park with the castle gardens is very beautiful and a great place to walk along the Lake of Thun - you can walk all the way from Thun to the Castle or take the public ship!  The castle also houses a museum which will make you want to explore the various rooms and follow in the footsteps of the former inhabitants.

- The Castle of Spiez
A castle visit can be perfectly combined with a boat trip on Lake Thun. The boats also take you to other castles on Lake Thun. There are also wonderful walks and hiking trails around the castle, for example along the vineyard Teaching trail through the Spiez vineyards with panoramic views of the castle, lake and mountains. In the immediate vicinity of the castle is the Museum of local history and viticulture, housed in a typical Simmental house dating from 1728. The swimming pool in Spiez Bay, only a ten minute walk from the castle, is also a very tempting idea on a hot summer’s day.

- The Castle of Schadau
Feed the ducks on the shores of Lake Thun or read and rest on a bench in the sun. Or take a walk along the paths leading through the woods, along the avenue and across the meadows that are so inviting to sunbathers in the summer.

Lake of Thun Ships & Lake of Brienz Ships
A wonderful alternative to driving and a great way to enjoy the views and the fresh mountain air - and of course enjoy the wonder of the pristine water of the lakes! Keep your eyes open for the diversity of water birds and ducks along the way (take a look at the Birds of Switzerland Webpage!).
